You may be asking, “Why are you pointing these things out?”
That’s a very good question. The answer is simple. Since 1950 Ross Roofing has been properly servicing the homeowners in the local area. We are a part of the community and truly care about each and every homeowner in the community.
We put this website together, along with the information contained in the To the Point Questions to Ask Your Contractor booklet, to provide you with the information that you need in order to make the best decision for your home. Regardless of the contractor that you choose to hire, we want to prove to you that we have your best interest at heart. We know that actions speak louder than words.
The mistakes below result from poor quality craftsmanship of companies who are taking shortcuts to make more money off of you. They give you a low bid to just to get on your roof simply because they know that they can pretty much do whatever they want when they get on your roof. That’s the industry standard! That’s why roofing contractors are amongst the number 1 most complained about industry in the United States.

Improperly flashed and installed.

Hurried roof installation & sloppy workmanship resulted in an edge detail that did not seal correctly (the knife slides easily into the roof system).

Bad installation caused seepage into the roof, resulting in dry rot and hundreds of dollars in damage.

Counter flashing should be installed so as not to be open ended like this. This roof is only 9 years old and leaks.

Hurried installation resulted in edge metal not being installed. The result is dry rot & termites.

Incorrect product was installed for this roof type. Consumer’s needs were not properly diagnosed.

Faulty nailing resulted in blown-off roofing. They nailed with staples, not nails, and they nailed in the wrong location on the shingle.

The roofer forgot to install roof to wall flashing. It’s an undershot that was overlooked.

Improperly and insufficiently ventilated attic spaces are being ignored or downplayed all the time. It seems the perception is that attic space ventilation is not needed. However, roof product failure happens on account of poor attic ventilation. If the structure is not vented correctly, the manufacturer warranty is void. Ventilation helps the roof product last longer by cooling the roof product system down by as much as 20 or more degrees on a hot summer day.

Failure to install product integrity from head to toe. Lots of roofers are doing a mish-mash of manufacturers. One for the felt, another for the starter, and another for the shingles and yet another for the ridge. This way they pay the least amount possible for the new roof. They use the cheapest product type for each detail. Not only does this create a logistical nightmare in determining who pays for any warranty work … often resulting in a complicated finger pointing match and loud exultations of “That’s Not My Product” … it’s just shoddy and shabby to put a roof on that way. The manufacturers have been offering complete roofing systems with complete product integrity from head to toe for about 5 years now.

Avoiding a home-improvement nightmare is easy... as long as you know what questions to ask.

Since 1950, Ross Roofing has been properly servicing customers in the local area. We know how to treat you right... but don't take our word for it. Listen to what others have to say!
